April 30, 2010 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Audra Landers Lancaster Recreation Commission 717-392-2115 x142 Lancaster recreation commision receives grant from American Honda and Jones Honda Lancaster, Pa. – The Lancaster Recreation Commission was recently awarded a grant in the amount of $4,597 from American Honda and Jones Honda. The grant will be used to improve the condition of Wickersham Elementary’s baseball field. The grant funds will be used to layout a baseball field for little league baseball and softball, install a new pitching mound, home plate and bases with anchors, edging and grooming. Improving the existing ball fields will give Lancaster Rec’s Little League program an opportunity to grow, provide opportunities for people in the community to get involved, and most importantly, keep children active in positive recreation programs. "This is a wonderful opportunity, not only for the community, but for the children who play and love the game," said Audra Landers, Director of Sports Services. "Our baseball programs give Lancaster City and Lancaster Township youth the opportunity to be more physically active, learn teamwork and good sportsmanship, and have fun. Having safe, playable ball fields will help to achieve these goals." "We’re excited to be able to help out the local baseball and softball programs," said Don Slavin, General Manager of Jones Honda. "It means the world — not just the cleaning up of the ball fields — but the chance to give back to the community." The mission of the Lancaster Recreation Commission is to provide quality and affordable recreation and learning opportunities to Lancaster’s residents. Lancaster Recreation is committed to offering sports and recreation programs for youth which teach social skills, enhance self-esteem and provide positive alternatives to self-destructive behavior. The grant will be presented to the Lancaster Recreation Commission at the Wickersham Elementary field on Friday, April 30, 2010, at 10:30AM.
